To foster the implementation of integrated approaches for New York State residents with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse conditions.

Tools & Links - For Agencies/Providers

Resources for mental health and substance abuse service providers are plentiful. While we have not attempted to include every source of relevant information, some of the more prominent and “user friendly” sites are represented below.

1. Co-occurring Disorders Resources and Information

SAMHSA’s Office of Applied Studies

  • Co-occurring Disorders Resources

The links (above) provides access to the Office of Applied Studies (OAS) resources (publications, reports, data tables, etc.) relating to co-occurring disorders.
  • Results from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) National Findings

Use the second link (above) to download a pdf report describing results obtained from the 2007 NSDUH (the most recent data available in September 2010).
  • The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) Report Adults with Co-occurring Serious Mental Illness
    http://oas.samhsa.gov/2k4/coOccurring/coOccurring.cfm
The link (above) to this short report also provides access to more publications on co-occurring disorders originating with the Office of Applied Studies. http://oas.samhsa.gov/2k4/coOccurring/coOccurring.pdf
This document (use the link above to download the pdf), “The NSDUH Report: Adults with Co-Occurring Serious Mental Illness and a Substance Use Disorder,” is based on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health conducted by SAMHSA’s Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) is the primary source of information on the prevalence, patterns, and consequences of drug and alcohol use and abuse and for selected mental health measures in the general U.S. civilian non-institutionalized population, age 12 and older.

6. NYS OMH and OASAS – Integrated Care

This section includes information available on New York State OMH and OASAS websites relating to co-occurring disorders and the State initiatives to improve the integration of services statewide. Much of this material can be found elsewhere on this site in associated areas (Target Areas and Services, particularly). Links to access recommended screening instruments have been included here, although not all are available on the OASAS or OMH sites.
